Is Bay Ridge an Italian neighborhood?

Bay Ridge has long had a strong Italian-American heritage, along with Irish, Scandinavian, and Greek roots, and that history is still visible in its restaurants, bakeries, and community institutions. In recent decades it has also become considerably more diverse, with a large and growing Middle Eastern and Arab-American community, particularly along Fifth Avenue, as well as Asian and Latino residents. Today Bay Ridge is best described as a diverse, family-oriented neighborhood with deep Italian-American roots rather than an exclusively Italian one.
