Is Downtown Brooklyn safe?

Downtown Brooklyn is generally considered safe, particularly given how busy and well-trafficked it is as the borough's central business and transit hub. Its streets stay active day and night with commuters, students, shoppers, and residents of its many new towers, and there is a strong commercial presence. As in any dense downtown area, awareness is sensible, especially late at night around transit hubs, but the neighborhood's constant activity and ongoing investment make most of it comfortable for residents.
