Is Flatbush safe?

Flatbush is a large, diverse central-Brooklyn neighborhood, and safety varies across its many sections. Its quieter residential enclaves, including the Victorian Flatbush areas and blocks near Prospect Park, are considered quite safe and family-friendly, while busier commercial corridors are more urban in feel. Crime has trended down over the years alongside steady investment and gentrification at its edges. As with any big neighborhood, conditions differ block by block and awareness is sensible, but much of Flatbush is a comfortable, community-oriented place to live.
