Is Greenpoint safe?

Greenpoint is generally considered a safe, quiet neighborhood, one of the calmer parts of northern Brooklyn. Historically a close-knit Polish-American community, it has low rates of serious crime and pleasant, residential tree-lined streets, along with a lively but low-key commercial scene on Manhattan and Franklin Avenues. Its waterfront and parks stay active with residents and families. As in any city neighborhood, awareness is wise after dark, but Greenpoint's community character and relative quiet make it a comfortable place to live.
