What is Starrett City?

Starrett City, officially known today as Spring Creek Towers, is one of the largest planned residential developments in the United States, located in the southeastern part of Brooklyn along Jamaica Bay. Built in the 1970s as a federally subsidized affordable housing complex, it consists of dozens of apartment towers along with its own shopping, schools, and community facilities. It is home to a large, diverse population and functions almost like a self-contained community within the borough.
